A wooden floor in a bedroom is an inviting, tactile and practical alternative to conventional carpet. Naturally hypo-allergenic, it is also hard wearing and easy to clean.
Warm in feel and tone, real wooden floors are never ‘cold' and provide the perfect foil for the spectrum of decorative schemes that might be chosen for a bedroom from the bold and dramatic to the calm and minimal. In children's rooms, wood provides an ideal play surface which, once sealed, is resistant to crayons and spills as well as wear and tear.
Although a rug can be added for softness, most children love to play directly on a warm, hard surface which will not topple bricks or blocks and is perfect for colouring, sticking or puzzles. It also offers a neutral, adaptable backdrop which will withstand the inevitable redecoration that comes as children grow up.
Paler, narrower floors will instantly create a clean, light, airy feel to complement bright or minimalist schemes typical of contemporary style; try Broadleaf Bleached or Pre-oiled Oak, Maple or Chestnut.
To create or complement a more traditional look, choose rustic, wider or slightly aged floors such as Broadleaf Cottage Oak, Light Brushed & Burned Oak or Warm Oak.
For a really indulgent boudoir feel, set rich colours and period or oriental patterns against the depth of darker oaks or exotic timbers like Broadleaf Antique Oak, Dark Brushed & Burned Oak, or Ipe.
Pre-finished boards are DIY-friendly and will bring down the cost of installation; they can also be walked on the day that they are fitted, so create minimum disruption.
Softer timbers such as Chestnut or Pine are generally very economical and are well suited to bedrooms, which are areas of low wear.
Also available, is Broadleaf's ‘hardwax' oil which protects the flooring. This clear and natural oil, developed by Broadleaf, is fast-drying and two coats can be applied in one day. For further information on Broadleaf Timber, please call 01269 851 910 or visit www.broadleaftimber.com. |
