Anorak

Treat the outdoors like your home and travel in style and comfort

Climate change * Carbon footprints * Sustainability * Made in the UK *  Recycling * Local produce * Healthy living * Energy saving * Concentration on quality  - buzz words for 2008

As the eco debate rages worldwide, consumers are becoming more and more conscious of the effect their lives are having on the planet.

With many families holidaying at home, offsetting carbon emissions or buying locally grown produce, it is evident that there is an overriding sense of going back to nature and with that, a return to family values.

As more and more production lines are taken overseas at significant cost to the environment and working economy, Anorak remains loyal to the British industry with the entire range manufactured in the UK.

Anorak is an eco-conscious company offering a lifestyle-oriented philosophy. Its vision is to encourage people to treat their outdoor space as their living room, bringing with them on their travels the warmth and comfort of their own home.

Starting out as a specialist in durable outdoor products such as travel and garden accessories, Anorak has recently launched an interiors range, new for April 2008.

Anorak fuses contemporary design with a nostalgic ethos and draws inspiration from childhood adventures.

Designer Laurie Robertson is passionate about quality and practicality. Anorak prides itself on its functional designs - all products are machine washable at the energy-saving 30° level and also feature wipe clean PVC surfaces or waterproof nylon backing for practical outdoor use.

Laurie has fond memories of camping with her family, and latterly with her friends. These wholesome adventures were the inspiration for her brand Anorak:

“Both my parents are artists so as a child we would go on trips to remote English holiday destinations in our camper van so that they could paint. Camping for me is about freedom, and the feeling that you are nomadic and close with nature.

I also have great memories of washing up dishes at the campsite, it's very communal and you end up getting to know people on a very personal level. It's very human.”

Anorak products are perfect for summer editorial stories on topical consumer issues such as:
holidaying in England (reducing air miles and carbon footprints)
the fast-fashion backlash for good quality and timeless products
the idea of healthy, wholesome living
Generation X yummy-mummies relinquishing the yuppie lifestyle for traditional family values: think Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and Jools Oliver.

Anorak would also fit well into festival stories, garden entertaining ideas and classic camping features. Laurie Robertson is also available for designer featurettes and label profiles.

Biography:
Laurie Robertson gained a First Class Honours degree in Surface Pattern Design from Staffordshire University in 2001 and went on to achieve a Masters in Printed Textiles from the Royal College of Art in London.

Laurie works from her studio in East Dulwich and is stocked in several small boutiques nationwide. Anorak has also recently secured a deal with Topshop (Oxford Circus) for a capsule summer order to coincide with the festival season. An Anorak transactional website is also in progress.
